Safety

Passive Safety
While an ordinary crash test dummy can provide 119 data points, Lexus uses digital models comprised of millions. The result of such an innovative approach to safety: The GS is equipped wiht a class-leading 10-airbag system that includes an all-new side airbag design to help provide additional support for the rib cage and upper arm. And, to help decrease the severity of whiplash-type injuries, new Wiplash injury Lessening (WIL)[1] front seats are designed to absort soem of the force of the impact by pushing backward in certain rear collisions.

[1] Whislash Injury Lessening (WIL) front seats can help reduce the severity of whiplash in certain types of rear-end collisions.

Active Safety Features
The best way to survive an accident is to avoid one altogether. So, to help keep your attention where it belongs, the GS offers some of the most advanced active safety systems on the road today.

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
To help you maintain a pre-set following distance from a vehicle traveling ahead, available Dynamic Radar Cruise Control [1] can regulate the throttle and even apply the brakes. And, when the road ahead clears, it can return your vehicle to the pre-selected speed.

[1]Dynamic Radar Cruise Control is designed to assist the driver and is not a substitute for safe and attentive driving practices. Please see your Owner's Manual for important cautions and instructions.

Night View
Available Night View [1] uses near-infrared technology to detect pedestrians and other objects beyond the reach of low-beach headlamps. If an object is detected, it can display the image on the navigation display.

[1]Nightview is designed to alert the driver to objects beyond the projected light of the low-beam headlamps. Driver should only glance at image occasionally. Factors including col weather and the vehicle's air conditioner may limit the effectiveness of the system.

Blind Spot Monitor
To help you change lanes more safely, the available Blind Spot Monitor [1] can warn you if it detects vehicles approaching or positioned in the adjacent lanes.

[1] Do not rely exclusively on the Blind Spot Monitor System to determine if a lane change is safe. Always look over your shoulder and use your turn signal before changing lanes. There are several limitations to the function, detection, range and clarity of the monitor system. For a complete list of limitations and directions regarding use of the monitor system, please see your Owner's Manual.

Adaptive Front Lighting
The available Dual-swivel Adaptive Front Lighting System [1] can help illuminate curves by rotating the right or left headlamp into a turn at low speeds and both headlamps together at higher speeds.

[1]The Adaptive Front Lighting System can help improve vision at night. However, conditions such as dirty windshield, rapidly changing light conditions or hilly terrain will limit effectiveness so the driver may need to manually change the high beams from on to off. See your Owner's Manual for details..

Lane Keep Assist
When using cruise control, available Lane Keep Assist [1] is designed to read the road's lane markings and steer the vehicle back toward the center of the lane if you begin to veer.

[1] Lane Keep Assist is designed to read the lane markers of certain roads and apply slight torque to the steering wheel to help keep the car in the center of the lane. If the vehicle approaches the outer limits of its lane, the Lane Departure Warning feature sounds a warning tone and applies slight torque to the steering wheel to notify the driver that corrective action may be required. These features are not a collision-avoidance system and are not a substitute for safe and attentive driving. System effectiveness depends on many factors. Please see your Owner's Manual for further information.

Pre-Collision System
The Pre-Collision System [1] available on the GS wasn't born out of theory or speculation. It's a result of real observations using the world's most advanced driving simulator. This remarkable Pre-Collision System connects to cameras designed to detect if you have your eyes closed or are facing away from teh road when an obstacle is detected ahead. If the system determines either condition is met, it will attempt to warn you through a series of beeps and visible indications. And, to help you avoid a potential collision, the GS is also designed to automatically begin braking a full two seconds before impact.

[1] The Pre-Collision Systemis designed to help reduce the crash speed and damage in certain frontal collisions only. It is no a collision-avoidance system and is not a substitute for safe and attentive driving. System effectiveness depends on many factors, such as speed, driver input and road conditions. Please see your Owner's Manual for further information.

Smart Stop Technology
For additional peace of mind, this safety feature is designed to automatically reduce engine power when the driver is pressing down the accelerator and brake pedals at the same time under certain conditions. When the brake pedal is released, the Smart Stop Technology [1] disengages. The feature does not engage if the brake pedal is pressed before the accelerator.

[1] Smart Stop Technology operates only in the event of certain simultaneous brake and gas pedal applications. When engaged, the system will reduce engine power to help the brakes bring the vehicle to a stop. Factors including speed, road conditions and driver input can all impact stopping distance. Smart Stop Technology is not a substitute for safe and attentive driving and does not guarantee instant stopping. Please see your Owner's Manual for further details.

Rain-Sensing Wipers
Using a sensor located at the top center of the windshield, raindrops can be detected. When they are, the intermittent wipers activate and adjust their speed accordingly.
