Theft-Deterrent System
The GS is equipped with an advanced vehicle theft-deterrent and engine-immobilizer [1] system. Each vehicle's unique rolling code scrambles every time the vehicle is started. If it's not the same one transmitted by your SmartAccess [2] [1] key fob, the vehicle is rendered immobile.

[1] All the airbag (“AB”) systems are Supplemental Restraint Systems. All ABs (if installed) are designed to inflate only under certain conditions and in certain types of severe collisions: frontal and knee ABs typically inflate in frontal collisions; side and side curtain ABs in side collisions; Roll-Sensing Curtain ABs at a severe tilt degree, roll or lateral G-force. In all other accidents, the ABs will not inflate. To decrease the risk of injury from an inflating AB, always wear seatbelts, sit upright in the middle of the seat as far back as possible and do not lean against the door. Do not put objects in front of an AB or around the seatback. Do not use a rearward-facing child seat in any front passenger seat. The force of an inflating AB may cause serious injury or death. Please see your Owner’s Manual for further information/warnings.
[2]The SmartAccess system may interfere with some pacemakers or cardiac defibrillators. If you have one of these medical devices, please talk to your doctor to see if you should deactivate this system.

Rain-Sensing Wipers
Using a sensor located at the top center of the windshield, raindrops can be detected. When they are, the intermittent wipers activate and adjust their speed accordingly. Variable intermittent wipers are standard. Rain-sensing feature is available on GS 460 and GS 350 models.

Daytime Running Lights
To help others see your vehicle during daylight hours, the GS comes equipped with automatic daytime running lights.

Adaptive Front Lighting
The available Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFS) provides enhanced visibility while cornering. By pivoting the low-beam headlamps, it helps illuminate more of the road through turns. The Adaptive Front Lighting System is standard on the GS 460 and available with the GS 350.

Water-Repellent Windows
To help improve visibility in rainy conditions, the GS comes equipped with water-repellent glass on the front side windows.

Direct Tire Pressure Monitor System
The direct tire pressure monitor [1] constantly checks the air pressure of all the tires. When a tire pressure drops below a predetermined level, a light on the instrument panel alerts the driver.

[1]The Lexus Tire Pressure Monitor System alerts the driver when tire pressure is critically low. For optimal tire wear and performance, tire pressure should be checked regularly with a gauge; do not rely solely on the monitor system. Please see your Owner's Manual for details.

Run-Flat Tires
When air pressure is lost, available run-flat tires [1] allow you to drive at speeds below 55 mph for approximately 100 miles. Run-flat tires are available on the GS 350 RWD and GS 460 RWD.

[1] Run-flat tire technology is designed for limited emergency use only. If air pressure is lost, vehicle speed must remain below 55 mph; cornering, braking and accelerating must be done with extreme caution; and the tire should be replaced within 100 miles. See your Lexus dealer for details.

ABS With Brake Assist
The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) employs computerized control to help prevent the wheels from locking up or skidding during braking. For additional control, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) monitors and manages the braking force between the front and rear wheels. And for emergency stops, Brake Assist [1] automatically helps boost braking force when the driver does not apply enough pressure to the brake pedal.

[1]Brake Assist is designed to help the driver take full advantage of the benefits of ABS. It is not a substitute for safe driving practices. Braking effectiveness also depends on proper brake-system maintenance and tire and road conditions.

VDIM
The Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) [1] system employs a range of advanced safety features to help prevent a loss of traction and maintain control. When a series of sensors anticipates the potential for a loss of traction, the system uses a combination of individual-wheel braking, throttle activation and, on the GS 460, steering via Variable Gear-Ratio Steering (VGRS). The GS is also equipped with Traction Control (TRAC) to help prevent wheelspin while accelerating.

[1]Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) are electronic systems designed to help the driver maintain control under adverse conditions. They are not substitutes for safe driving practices. Factors including speed, road conditions and driver steering input can all affect whether VSC and VDIM will be effective in preventing a loss of control. Please see your Owner’s Manual for further details.

Pre-Collision System
The available Pre-Collision System (PCS) [1] is equipped with a front-mounted radar sensor that can detect an object ahead of the vehicle. When the PCS computer determines that a frontal collision is unavoidable, it preemptively tightens the front seatbelts and preps the Brake Assist [2] so increased braking force is available the moment the driver steps on the brake pedal. Integrated use of the radar technology also provides the GS with Dyanmic Radar Cruise Control [3] .

[1] The Pre-Collision System is designed to help reduce the crash speed and damage in certain frontal collisions only. It is not a collision-avoidance system and is not a substitute for safe and attentive driving. System effectiveness depends on many factors, such as speed, driver input and road conditions. Please see your Owner's Manual for further information.
[2] Brake Assist is designed to help the driver take full advantage of the benefits of ABS. It is not a substitute for safe driving practices. Braking effectiveness also depends on proper brake-system maintenance and tire and road conditions.
[3]Dynamic Radar Cruise Control is designed to assist the driver and is not a substitute for safe and attentive driving practices. Please see your Owner's Manual for important cautions and instructions.

Three-Point Seatbelts
Three-point seatbelts with force limiters are found in both the front and rear seats of the GS. In addition, the driver's, front passenger's and outboard rear seatbelts feature a pre-tensioner system. The pre-tensioners cinch the belts just before an impact occurs, helping to control force to the body during an accident. Also included are low, rigid-bar Child Restraint Seat (CRS) tether anchor brackets.

SRS Airbags
The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) utilizes 10 airbags [1] throughout the cabin to help protect you and your passengers in various types of severe frontal or side collisions. These include a dual-stage frontal airbag system (SRS), driver and front passenger’s knee airbags (SRS), front- and rear-seat side curtain airbags (SRS) and front- and rear-seat mounted side airbags (SRS).

[1]All the airbag (“AB”) systems are Supplemental Restraint Systems.

Reinforced Body
The GS features a steel-reinforced unibody structure with specific crumple zones in the front and rear. These crumple zones are designed to compress at a controlled rate to help absorb impact energy. And to help resist cabin intrusion during a possible lateral collision, the doors are reinforced with sturdy side-impact door beams.
